Parkinson’s. This was our first thought after we chose the topic Good Health and Well Being. We all saw a video about people with Parkinson’s boxing to help alleviate the symptoms of this progressive disease. This inspired us, after some research about the benefits of exercise in people with Parkinson’s, to create some sort of program to help them want to exercise more often. Our first idea was a Walkathon. We planned to have each person who would be walking laps to be sponsored by a family member or close friend to help raise money to donate to an organization. We even shared this idea to the faculty. We got a great deal of constructive suggestions and realized that our idea had multiple flaws. We still wanted to continue with this idea, though. However, our idea went down the drain when we realized a big organization, Parkinson’s Association Los Angeles, was holding a Walkathon for Parkinson’s relatively soon, on June 11. Instead of giving up, we decided to hold an event to help the people participating in the other Walkathon. However, we soon realized that this Walkathon was out of our reach. Then we found an organization called Invertigo Dance Theater. We have now decided to partner with them. Their Parkinson’s patients already have the exercise element down, but they may not know which foods are beneficial to their health. We are going to create two delicious bars that are high in foods that Parkinson’s patients need and will help them with energy levels. We will hand these bars out after the patients finish their exercise class. Despite our many challenges, we have faith!!
Our faithful team:)
